DIY Fancy Moss Planter
I once paid roughly $80 for an ivy moss planter, true story. I was young, dumb and obviously not too financially mindful at the time. It was from a fancy little garden shop in town that would customize the plant you bought so beautifully- it made me feel special shopping there. Well, fast forward to my thirties and I can’t fathom paying such a high price for a small plant. So, I’m making those fancy little moss planters for pennies on the dollar.
If I don’t already have a planter I like to get mine from Hobby Lobby. They have a really good selection of unique planters for under $10. The white urn planter for the pictured fern was only $7! Then I use real preserved moss and apply it to the top of the soil under the plant. I use this chartreuse moss the most because I love the contrasting colors against most plants. One bag of moss makes lots of planters because a little goes a long way.
I’m working up an idea for a potted fern garden in a long copper planter I have and planning to use this mixed variety moss to make it look like moss art at the base of the ferns.
I also really like to make these for gifts and they have been such a hit with those I’ve given them to.
